ELEMENTS: An Immersive Experience at St Peters, Cork on Wednesday 9th April from 7- 8.30pm.
Body adornment works are inspired by turbulence within the natural world!
‘There is no better designer than nature’ Alexander McQueen
Sound Production and Sound Design Coordinator David Bickley has created this short film by digitally mapping the most wonderful visual screening, site specific to the St Peters venue, North Main St. Motion imagery superimposed onto student creations has taken the fashion world from the sewing room to the digital realm.
The theme ELEMENTS inspired staff and students to join creative forces to produce an incredible event showcasing at St Peters on North Main St. Earth, wind, fire, water, rain, storms and beaches influenced the intriguing headpieces designed and created by Douglas Street Campus students. Inspired by Alexander McQueen, Coco Chanel, Iris Van Herpen and John Galliano – students manipulate reclaimed materials by stitching and transforming raw materials into wearable sculptural accessories for the body.
Under the creative direction of teacher Jenny Monks, students thrived and evolved as they embraced working with others. The ELEMENTS project gave staff & students the opportunity to truly express their interests, skills & talents. Each student opted to model their own work or reached out to friends in the city to model their creations. Talented students from the Hair and Makeup courses at Douglas Street Campus also elevated the individual looks through meticulous styling.
ELEMENTS is a Creative Collaboration that we wish to continue at the college to promote our talented community and to showcase their work in innovative ways in the city. This is the beginning of professional careers and a first-time experience for many in hair styling, fashion design, photography & modelling.
Further Education students would love to share their first-hand experience of the Creative Industries with a wide audience. Courses include Fashion Design, Creative Hair & Makeup, Hairdressing Level 5, Sound Production, Photography, Film, Fine Art and Jewellery & Art Metalcraft
