Overview
Millinery is experiencing a resurgence in fashion and accessories, with a growing demand for unique handmade hats, headpieces and accessories. A career in accessory/ hat design requires creative thinking, textile making skills & retail selling knowledge. This creative course is designed to explore the potential of textile materials/ processes to develop a hat/ accessory collection of high merchantable quality. Learners will build their design confidence & technical making skills in hat construction, embellishments and styling to bring ideas to life!

Students should present examples of their creative work at interview
Duration
One-year full time
Work Placement/Experience
Participants will be required to undertake 10 days of work placement in a relevant location. The College will assist participants in identifying suitable placements.
Career Opportunities
Sells, designs, makes and repairs wearable and decorative or functional objects such as rings, earrings, necklaces, watches and tableware using both precious and non-precious metals and stones, and other materials such as glass, plastic, paper and fabrics.
Education Progression Opportunities
Graduates of this course may apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to higher and advanced certificate and degree programmes at national Institutes of Technology, Technological Universities and Universities.
